Your tasks
The focus of the position will be on the optimization of electrical & S/W CONOPS of lifesupport systems for manned spacecraft. He/She will join the Chief Engineering Science & Life Support Missions department.
The jobholder works as a System Engineer and the main tasks are:
- Lead Systems Engineer throughout the lifecycle of our development projects, which includes requirements engineering, system concept definition, interface management, system design, definition of test & qualification program, space mission preparation, and operations support.
- Select, propose, and finally approve the key technologies to be used in the project.
- Perform technical risk management. Determine the make-or-buy strategy. Drive the process to select suppliers and form the industrial team.
- Produce the technical work breakdown structure, the development schedule, and ensure that all technical teams provide on-time, on-quality, and on-cost deliverables.
- Be responsible for the scope and quality of the assigned tasks, considering all aspects like feasibility, reusability in similar products, system optimization, maintainability, safety, technical performance, interface design, risks, and opportunities.
- Ensure transfer of contracted capabilities and customer requirements into system and subsystem requirements.
- Take responsibility in the definition and automation of verification on system- and sub-system level.
- Continuously monitor progress, ensuring timely resolution of technical issues.
- Lead engineering change management including customer requests acceptance & rejection.
- Take care of customer satisfaction and full compliance with valid rules and regulations.
- Preparation of and participation in customer meetings and workshops, being responsible for the technical coherence of the developed product.
- Foster collaboration within our project team and with involved stakeholders - internal and external.
- Book captain of the technical proposal during tenders.
- Represent chief engineering in the proposal team.
- Anticipate technology needs of program roadmaps and capture suitable research & technology and research & development opportunities.
- Actively support the continuous improvement of our team, products, and processes.

Your profile
- Completed studies with a focus on areas such as thermodynamics, structures, mechanics, software, electronics, fluidics, material science, physics, or equivalent qualification
- At least 5 years of professional experience, theoretical and practical knowledge in systems engineering with the ability to coordinate interdisciplinary technical areas and teams
- Experience in product development
- Experience in developing and defining procedures and risk analyses
- Practical experience with the integration and testing of scientific structures or closed loop systems according to procedures and safety standards
- Familiarity with handling sensitive hardware under laboratory or clean room conditions
- Experience in research and technology as well as in research and development, i.e. translating scientific and technological ideas into technical solutions and their application to enable innovative products
- Knowledge in system modeling, e.g. in Matlab/Simulink
- Fluent language skills in English and German
- Independent and systematic way of working
- Quick and responsive adaptation to the needs of stakeholders in a changing environment, from institutional to commercial customers
- Ability to work in an international team
- A proactive personality who can take initiative, lead teams, and is willing to collaborate within a team
- Independent work style and a high sense of quality
